About Me

Hi, my name is Nikita Gill, I am a photographer based in Staffordshire, UK. My photographic journey has been heavily inspired by my experiences with Autism and Functional Neurological Disorder (FND), offering me a unique perspective that I bring to all my work.

My Educational Journey

I recently completed a three-year degree at Falmouth University, building on a strong foundation from a photography course at Stafford College, where I graduated with three Distinction*'s. Both of these course's allowed me to develop my skills and improve myself as a photographer.

Early Passion for Photography

My love for photography began at a young age. Initially using disposable cameras, which I would get my mum to take to get developed for me. At around ten years old, I saved up my pocket money to buy my first camera, a Canon PowerShot A2400 IS. This camera came everywhere with me, and I photographed anything that caught my eye, from flowers to animals. Around the time I had that camera, as a family we would go on holiday with our caravan, exploring different countryside's. These holidays helped to fuel my love for photography even more as I would be able to find small details on our walks to photograph

Discovering My Path

In 2017, I began studying photography during my A Levels. Initially, photography was just an extra subject for me as I wanted to be a dancer. However, it quickly became my primary passion. To pursue this newfound love, I invested in a Canon EOS 1300D DSLR, which allowed me to enhance my skills and produce higher-quality images. Realizing that photography was my true calling, I shifted from Sixth Form to college, focusing solely on developing my photography skills and techniques.

FND Journey

In July 2020, a cold virus attacked my brain, causing me to lose the ability to walk and use my upper body. I was told I have FND and since then I have had to learn how to walk again multiple times. My journey with FND has inspired a few of my photography projects, where I have wanted to show what living with a disability is like and how having a disability doesn't have to stop you from doing things you enjoy. FND is a condition that will affect me for the rest of my life but I won’t allow it to affect my love and passion for photography

Autism Journey

Currently, I am awaiting an official Autism assessment, though my GP has already indicated that I am Autistic. This personal journey has inspired my latest project, Behind The Mask: Autism's True Colours, which aims to portray my experiences of living with Autism and my Unmasking journey, hopefully inspiring others in a similar situation. This project is close to my heart, and I plan to expand it as my journey progresses.
